Painting a Day - 12 and 13 (and a little crochet!)

Day 12

Day 13

I also experimented some more with the scraper board I started a few days ago...

I picked up issue 2 of Simply Crochet and when I spotted their pattern for baby bootees I couldn't resist!

I was really pleased with how they turned out and particularly like the little buttoned cuff. With two work colleagues having recently had babies, and another due in March, I feel a few more of these in different colour ways need to be made!

  1. The birds are stunning. And what is a scraper board? Well, whatever it is I love the leaves flying around. And those booties are so cute!

    1. Thank you Dana!
Scraper board is a thin card coated in chalk and then covered with Indian ink. You can scrape away the ink with a sharp tool to reveal the white beneath. It is very satisfying to do!

  2. The scraper board is stunning - have you painted on it as well as scraping?

  3. Thank you Claire! Yes, I put a watercolour wash over it once I'd scraped it.

    1. You buy the boards ready to use. I hadn't used them for years and I'd forgotten how much fun they are to do!
